Parker House Haunted Attraction
So, heading out to Parker House we weren’t sure what to expect. I had heard some good things, but until you get to experience it first hand….you can never tell. Pulling onto the property, the experience begins. It’s in a much more secluded location than last year, for starters. Secondly, the building looms in the distance, almost menacing. They have characters that roam around outside the haunt that were awesome. They were playing the part of either zombie or crazy….I don’t know, all I know is they were creepy.
Walking in, you have to cross a suspension bridge, that stretches across a pond they have put in. This bridge is AWESOME! Very rickety…nice touch! The house itself…… Awesome. Just, awesome. From the beginning spiel, Parker House delivers. The little Samara looking girl in the opening scene is a nice touch too. In any case, she sets it up wonderfully.
Walking in to the actual haunt, it’s….I hate to use something as trite as wierd, but….wierd. You don’t know what to expect. doors everywhere, and no clue where to go. Naturally, panic sets in as we human beings like to be guided, and in the absence of such guidance fear creeps in: Nicely played, Parker House. Nicely played. And ditto for the stuffed cat! What the heck was that about? Congrats to the sick minded freak that came up with that. First time I’ve ever seen a stuffed animal in a haunt.
This place just…..there’s so MUCH to it. The special effects are AMAZING. The anaimtronics are off the CHAIN! One of our reviewers remarked during the haunt that “wow. This is like Univeral friggin Studios.” And he was spot on. That’s exactly the kind of detail and quality you will find at Parker House.
The Parker House tips its hat to pop culture, with a little Saw reference in there, some Michael Meyers, and doesn’t neglect the days of old while doing so. They actually have the classic Mack truck room…where you walk in and get blasted with a horn and the bright lights from an 18-wheeler! VERY COOL TOUCH! I could literally go on for pages about the job these guys have done, but instead……save us both the time to write, and the time to read, and check it out for yourself. My only complaint was that it actually ended. We wanted MORE!!! Not that it’s short. Definitely a great value, as far as bang for your buck. I lost track of time, but I would guesstimate it in the 20-30 minute range. Well within the dollar or less per minute formula we use to calculate bang for your buck! It’s just north of Irving in Lewisville, and if you say you like haunted houses….you seriously must check this year’s rendition of Parker House out. It will appeal to the perfectionist, the traditionalist, and the horror fan….everyone except for maybe the claustrophobic….
Admission is very fair, less than $20, and only $23 for the Fast Pass. Proceeds benefit the Heroes of Denton County, an absolutely PHENOMENAL group! Check them out HERE!
“The Heroes of Denton County is a non-profit, charitable organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas. It exists to respond within twenty four (24) hours with emergency funds to the family, or families, of any Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter from any department within Denton County who loses their life, or suffers serious injury in the line of duty. That response will mean that the family, or families, of our fallen heroes will not have to endure the pain of instant financial peril while at the mercy of their unrelenting grief.”
The Parker House
Until the 1940′s the families of the dead would keep their deceased love ones in their homes until the time came for burials. A family member would have to stay with the body at all times until it was buried to keep the animals from disturbing it. This was called, “the wake”. This could go on for days while the family members traveled from all around the country to pay their respects.
Over 65 years ago, old man Parker, his wife Nancy and daughter Mary, changed all that by providing their home (to these families) for this purpose. The dead would be brought to their home and the mortician would care for the body until the family could get together to say their goodbyes and bury their loved one. They named it, “The Parker’s Funeral Home”.
This business turned into a very profitable endeavor and the dead from miles around passed through the Parker’s home for many years until it was closed suddenly after the discovery of what had been going on behind the scenes.
Living around death since childhood, old man Parker’s daughter, “Mary” lost her sensitivity for human life. After old man Parker and his wife were killed in a plane crash Mary was left to carry on the family business. The business immediately started going down hill with the introduction of “big business” in town. People were overlooking the smaller family mortuaries.
In her hardened state, Mary started to salvage parts of the dead to re-sell on the black market. She would remove the organs from the bodies without the love ones knowledge and sell them to people in order to keep the business alive. This paid more then the mortuary business over time. It soon became the primary source of income for Mary with the Funeral Home being the front to hide her grizzly works.
Soon, the town was not supplying her with enough bodies to keep up with her buyers demands. That’s when Mary started creating her own victims. She would lure the homeless and runaways around the town with promises of a job and place to stay. They would follow Mary right into her traps. She would remove their body parts in the most horrific ways and discard the remains in the cremation chamber.
This went on undetected until one trusting transient found himself in her trap and managed to escape. He was able to make it to the police and tell them the horrifying practices going on. The FBI raided the back rooms of the Parker House and seized the home with all its contents in their original state of torture.
After more then 20 years of probing and investigations conducted by governmental agencies, the “Parker House” was put up for sale.
We have bought it and reassembled it in its original state in order for you to witness, first hand how awful the tortures really were.
We can’t wait to see you there…
