2011 Reviews: Zombie Manor

  • October 1, 2011 12:11 pm

Zombie Manor is quickly becoming one of my all time fave haunts in the area. It isn’t out in the middle of nowhere. You don’t ride a hayride to get there. There’s no build up to it. All you do, is show up and get the crud scared out of you! This place flat out rocks. Whether you like special effects, animatronics, or attention to detail, there is something for you here!

The attention to detail is just off the chain. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If Dream Works wanted to get in the haun business, they would just take over Zombie Manor. It’s truly that good. And they KEEP the theme, all throughout the house. Many houses in DFW have some kind of theme, but it seems to drift as you go through the house: not here. This place is all about zombies. They could even be Zombies are Us if they wanted to, but they are far too cool for that.

As far as effects: Dude. Go. See for yourself. Keep your eyes open though, because you never know what’s gonna be around the next corner or in the next cranny. This year they have added quite a bit, so do NOT assume you’re getting a retread of last year. More actors, with more experience under their belt, is a recipe for bigger and better scares! Personal fave? The shotgun special effect. You’ll see. The wraith scream is a close second. And honorable mention? How bout the graveyard…it’s just an awesome set up.

For what it’s worth, one of the reasons we really love this house is that we’ve watched them grow into this work of art.   They are not new kids on the block anymore.   They are an established haunt, with Hollywood quality artwork and special effects, Disney worthy animatronics, and a crew of season actors.

ZOMBIE MANOR is DFW’s TOP RATED Zombie Experience with no other Haunted House attraction quite like it. Our movie quality sets and special effects will place YOU in the middle of your very own Hollywood Horror movie. Due to the interaction within our attraction only a limited number of tickets can be purchased to experience the Zombie Apocalypse each evening.

2010 Reviews: Zombie Manor

  • October 5, 2010 8:37 am

Sometimes, it’s like beating a dead horse, but I’ve said it every year since Zombie Manor blessed the Metroplex with their presence: Zombie Manor brings something to DFW that is mising: a theme!
Yes, there are others that have an overall driving theme, but they tend to sway now and again. Not Zombie Manor. Zombie Manor is the Alpha and Omega of Zombie creepy-ness in DFW! It’s a themed out trip into zombie land. Like, if DreamWorks wanted to do a haunt about Zombies, they would just take over Zombie Manor. It’s that flippin good.

Zombie Manor has complete scene control. They are big, bad, and cool…and they know it. Once you walk in, every step, every move, every corner is calculated. They are the embodiment of the US Navy’s catch phrase: attention to detail. Nothing is half-butt here. They go above, and beyond with everything they do. The lighting is perfect, the actors are seasoned, and the flow of the crowd is perfect. Where some haunts jam as many through as possible, Zombie Manor sticks to their two-at-a-time mantra, for the sake of the integrity of the haunt. How cool is that?

And speaking of cool…they have a new feature, and I dont know what to say other than….dude. See, up until now the coolest single feature I’d ever seen at a haunt was this rope gadget that propelled the actor toward the patron at seemingly breakneck speed…she just seemed to fly across the room. Zombie Manor has upped the ante this year. I’m not going to spoil it for you but….pay close attention to the pictures. One of them in there will absolutely BLOW YOU AWAY! We sat in there for like….a full minute afterwards, hoping it would do it again. Sadly, no such luck. (I would pay the full price of admission just to see this again!!!!)

Zombie Manor is a treat to go out to, as a reviewer. We tell them when we’re coming, they just say “Bring It.” First day of the season, last day of the season, or somewhere in between, they are ready for us. And that’s a result of 3 years of (for the most part) the same actors working together. Haunted houses aren’t so different than college football teams: continuity shows. And what we have here is a bunch of 5th year redshirted-seniors ready to blow your doors off.

Couple of things to point out: talk to these folks afterward. Some of the most friendly accomodating people you will find! Oh! I can’t leave this one out….they have PAVED parking! For any of you who remember last year’s weather fiasco, trust me…this is a big deal. Paved parking rocks!

The ZOMBIE MANOR Story

In the late 1800s a wealthy landowner, Dean Delacroix, moved his entire family, estate and holdings from the murky lowlands of Louisiana to Texas. Delacroix built a large manor house referred to as Landrun Manor since the eye could see as far as the land runs. Landrun Manor was erected on an open prairie beside an old, withered cemetery and a lush, flowing creek (believed to be in the area now considered the Arlington-Mansfield corridor along US Highway 287).

Many Delacroix laborers oddly warmed up to having the manor house built next to a cemetery. One Delacroix house servant was a young and beautiful Creole woman named Badula.

Bedulas Creole ancestors were steeped in the practice of voodoo and the spiritual rituals that come with it. Her mother and her grandmother were highly regarded priestesses from islands in the Caribbean. Bedulas great grandmother secretly taught young Badula voodoo spells before she could even walk and many of Delacroixs servants and field hands were well aware Bedulas amazing powers of perception and healing even at such a young age.

When Badula turned 17 she became Delacroixs household manager responsible for supervising the staff for the entire estate. This was a position of great honor and responsibility. This also meant Badula had a room of her own in the manor house; she was no longer living amongst those in the cramped and decrepit shacks at the edge of the estate beside the cemetery. Badula settled into her new position of standing and several prosperous years passed by. Badula and Delacroix worked in harmony for many years. Then Badula fell in love with the Manor Stableman. She married and had a child.

The years passed by and Badulas young daughter grew to become a beautiful woman just like her mother. One day, after a long night of drinking with other wealthy landowners, Delacroixs long hidden passion for Badulas beautiful young daughter took control of him. His ill thought out advancement on the young house girl enraged Badula. She could not believe the man she had grown to trust and respect could do such a terrible thing. Badula became so infuriated that her powers, all but buried away for nearly two decades, reared up in fury. Erupting in a rage of anger Badula cursed Delacroix, his family and land. Reaching back to days gone by of her voodoo practices she called upon her ancestors to strengthen her forgone powers and summon up pure evil to infest Delacroix and all of his holdings.

It was not long before a foreboding sense of dread filled the Manor.

Crops spoiled, livestock mysteriously died and an infectious plague came over the Delacroix family along with anyone who stepped foot on Delacroix soil. Strangely, even the “dead ” became cursed - shortly after their last breadth escaped gaping mouths the body rose once again to walk the earth.

And, these living dead were really not quite either, living or dead. It was not long before Delacroixs land was besieged by hordes of the walking dead – – ZOMBIES!

As the years and decades rolled by, Landrun Manor slowly rotted away to a dilapidated state of decay. The land slowly grew up around this creepy, old property. Then one day a stranger arrived; they called him the Caretaker.   Along with him, a crew of western clad and ragged prospectors who appeared to be his henchmen.  Wherever the Caretaker was heard to be seen he was said to be with this trio the townsfolk soon began calling the Zombie Wranglers.

Some claim the Caretaker and his Zombie Wranglers can often be seen shuffling through town when the night is bright by the glow of the moon.

Ever so often word spreads about an infection that impacts the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  These uprisings occur frequently…and for no real reason.  In 2009, the media said it was the Swine Flu.  This year, the oil and toxins washing ashore from the gulf may be the culprit.  No one really knows how these viruses seems to start…or how fast they spread…but somehow the Caretaker and his Zombie Wranglers never are far behind.

Is Badula coming back to claim more lost souls or is there something more mystereous…more sinister… or even more evil at work that cause the dead to walk amongst us? You will find your answer beside the old cemetery, near the dry creek bed – inside ZOMBIE MANOR!

Zombie Manor

  • September 24, 2009 11:13 pm

Zombie Manor is back for another season, and it has certainly lives up to its expectations.  If you’re coming here expecting a Cutting Edge type experience, don’t.   But, what Zombie Manor CAN provide for you, is the Spielberg to Cutting Edge’s Tarantino.

Zombie Manor

He comes from the grave, his body a home of worms and filth. No life in his eyes, no warmth of his skin, no beating of his heart. His soul, as empty and dark as the night sky. For eternity, he will walk the earth, smelling the sweet blood of the living, feasting upon the bones of the damned. Beware, for he is the living dead. – Obscure Hindu text, circa 1000 B.C.E.

ZOMBIE MANOR will transport you into the world of the Walking Dead!  Our interactive performers will keep you on edge and searching for salvation!  The Caretaker and his Zombie Wranglers provide the DARKNESS and the LIGHT of each step through this once proud historic mansion that has become infected with the living dead.  There is no escaping what awaits you in ZOMBIE MANOR, Dallas-Fort Worth’s MOST INTENSE Haunted House experience.

The Caretaker is waiting to make YOU a permanent guest at ZOMBIE MANOR! ”

Zombie Manor is one of those “themed” houses, that there just aren’t enough of anymore.  I won’t go into the entire story (you can read for your self, below) but what Zombie Manor does is take this theme and embrace it, throughout the haunt. From the story at the beginning, to all of the secenes, characters, and motif inside, this is THE Zombie Experience.

Speaking of the Zombie Experience, can I just say: WOW!  Some of the effects in there were just…well, disgusting, frankly.  I’ve been two years, and would love nothing more than to figure out WHAT that woman is mixing in the bowl.  Maybe it’s best I don’t know but…..it just screams of all kinds of foulness.  And the 13-year-old girl inside that gets in your face and just LOKKS THROUGH YOU… I don’t know what to say about er, other than: CREEPY.  She has the talent of getting in your face, and in turn….getting in your head.  The rooms inside this haunt are just phenomenal.   The detail put into this haunt sets the bar, as far as haunt attractions go. Some of it is just disgusting, but all of it is eye-catching.   From the pictures on the wall that morph as you pass them, to the box office, the line queue, the cemetery….this place is Zombied out through and through.  All I can say is get your butt to Zombie Manor.  It’s an experience you will LOVE!  The guys that run this place are genuine, and from talking to them you can see that they do this out of love of creating a haunt, not for love of the almighty buck.   They help LOCAL charities, so do your part and go

Zombie Manor: The Story

In the late 1800s a wealthy landowner, Dean Delacroix, moved his entire family, estate and holdings from the murky lowlands of Louisiana to Texas. Delacroix built a large manor house her referred to as Landrun Manor since the eye could see as far as the land runs. Landrun Manor was erected on an open prairie beside an old, withered cemetery and a lush, flowing creek (it is believed this property was constructed in the area now considered the Arlington-Mansfield region along what is now US Highway 287).

Many Delacroix laborers had never been to Texas before but oddly warmed up to having the manor house built next to a cemetery. One Delacroix house servant was a young and beautiful Creole woman named Badula.

Bedulas Creole ancestors were steeped in the practice of voodoo and the spiritual rituals that come with it. Her mother and her grandmother were highly regarded priestesses from islands in the Caribbean. Bedulas great grandmother secretly taught young Badula voodoo spells before she cold even walk and many of Delacroixs servants and field hands were well aware Bedulas amazing powers of perception and healing even at such a young age.

Then Badula fell in love with the Manors Stableman. She married and had a child.

The years passed by and Badulas young daughter grew to become a beautiful woman just like her mother. One day, after a long night of drinking with other wealthy landowners, Delacroixs long hidden passion for Badulas beautiful young daughter took control of Delacroix. His ill thought out advancement on the young house girl enraged Badula. She could not believe the man she had grown to trust and respect, treating her as almost family, could do such a terrible thing to her daughter.

Very shortly after, a foreboding sense of dread seems to have filled the Manor. Crops spoiled, livestock mysteriously died and an infectious plague came over the Delacroix family along with anyone who stepped foot on Delacroix soil. Strangely though, even these “dead ” appeared cursed – as it seems death may have only been the beginning! Shortly after the last breadth escaped their gaping mouths the body came back to walk the earth.

And, these living dead were really not quite either, living or dead. It was not long before Delacroixs land was besieged by the walking dead, zombies.

As the years and decades rolled by, Landrun Manor slowly rotted away to a dilapidated state of rot and decay. The land slowly grew up around this creepy, old property. Then one day a stranger arrived…or DID he? They called him the Caretaker. Town lore states there are believers that swear they hear mysterious wails and groans surrounding Landrun Manor late at night.

Some even claim the Caretaker can be seen shuffling through the cemetery when the night is bright by the glow of the moon but he was never REALLY seen by the local townspeople.

TODAY, the area has become thick with mesquite and sagebrush. Only recently was the property leased by Eerie Industries, Inc. searching for a vacant site in which to build their new chemicals processing factory.

While Eerie Industries management had been told all about the strange history of the property and the mysterious past of the Delacroix estate management nonetheless decided this was the perfect site for their new research. Over the next several months, a series of green metal warehouses were constructed on the site. Under the cover of darkness, large panel trucks could be seen removing large metal barrels down a dirt road through a groove of heavy mesquite.

As the months passed by, there became no more room to bury the large metal barrels so Eerie Industries decided to merely dump the barrel contents over the barren, once hallowed ground neighboring a stream. The phosphorescent liquids slowly seeped into the ground where legend believes the Delacroixs and several of their servants have been entombed for several hundred years.

Be it from the curse of Badulas revenge or the chemicals poured into the soil by Eerie Industries, bodies buried deep beneath began to rise once again. Strangely, Eerie Industries employees disposing of this chemical waste suddenly were no longer seen at work again. A mysterious plague once again fell upon this land and the towns water supply became contaminated.

Townspeople started becoming ill with fever, then chills, slight dementia, vomiting and pain in the joints. Within hours, victims would suffer a loss of muscular coordination, followed by paralysis of the lower body, a slowed heart rate and finally then slip into a coma until the heart stopped beating and the body registered zero brain activity. By stopping the heart, the infected subject is rendered dead. The brain, however, surprisingly remained alive, and then the real horror began when after approximately 23 hours reanimation occurred. A Class 1, low-level outbreak has occurred on this historic site as infected townspeople began to feed on any living human being they came across.

Is it Badula coming back to claim lost souls or the dumping of unknown chemicals that cause the dead to walk amongst us? You will find your answer beside the old cemetery, near the dry creek bed – inside ZOMBIE MANOR!
