Tayman Graveyard is not a Hollywood set.  You won’t find $25,000 vortexes there.  What you will find, is a trip to the old school of haunts gone by.  This is not a bad thing, by any means.  Tayman is a multi-attraction haunt, with a great price: $30 bucks for all 4, or $25 with a coupon available on their website: www.taymangraveyard.com.

My favorite attraction at Tayman is the Funeral Home.  What makes this one so great, is the acting.  I absolutely LOVE the caretaker.  We have spent the last 2 years trying to get him out of character, and always come up emty-handed. Watching him correspond with the other hauntgoers, especially the easily scared, is like watching a true craftsman.  He’s good, and always has his A game!  A few very cool effects to be found here, as well.   Something with a chainsaw, and a squirting liquid.  I think it was swater….well, I HOPE it was water!!!  They have also added on to the end of this attraction, with the rumour of even MORE to come next year! Really looking forward to that.

Second coolest thing at Tayman? THEY HAVE A HAYRIDE!!!!!!  Maybe I’m in the minority, but I just LOVE hayrides.   The world was a better place when  the hayride was a much larger player in the DFW haunt scene, in my humble opinion. Is the hayride something that’s going to just completely blow you away? Honestly, no.  But it’s a great sideshow, and it’s bigger and better this year.  We went on a dark and rainy night, and still had a BLAST!   There is one really cool effect on the hay ride toward the end.   Two words: Look up!  Or maybe, don’t look up…..

The Sinister Swamp and the Mineshaft are not to be missed, either.  The Mineshaft is more than than just a sideshow.  Definitely worth visiting!  Lot of attention to detail, and major kudoes for the effort put out on this one.  A job well done!

Tayman is a good time.  It isn’t corporate, it isn’t perfect, but it IS a good time.  The staff at Tayman is superb.   Definite family environment.   And they benefit the Boy Scouts…..who can go wrong with that?  Don’t let this season go by without checking em out!

TAYMAN GRAVEYARDYou are about to enter the TAYMAN GRAVEYARD, a living tribute

To the historic TAYMAN family who originally lived here.

Fences and other structures have been built to protect the area, but the history of this haunted area should be feared, and no one should take lightly the curse that has hounded the TAYMAN property for generations.

Hopefully you will listen carefully to the story of the Tayman Graveyard.

Mystical Mineshaft

In 1849 DAN TAYMAN was digging in the family garden when he found a beautiful gold nugget. It was the start of the gold mine that still exists today. While the gold has long since disappeared, the dark history of the mine curse still exists. Greed caused the workers to stay; looking for a new vein of gold long after the mine had stopped operating. They were protective, thinking they would get rich, and they did not trust anyone who came close to the mine. Some even refused to leave the mine.

Strange things started to happen. Miners who knew the mine swore the tunnels seemed to change directions, or new ones appeared they had never seen before. Old miners heard voices; saw things they never talked about except with each other, and even said some of the miners who allegedly left had not left but were still in the mine, lost and confused. Some say the miners are still there today, and swear they see them or what appears to be them, and some people even today who enter the mine never come out, or, if they do, you would say they are a little bit crazy.

(SINISTER) Swamp

Old Dan knew he had some worthless land, swampy, that was dark and sinister even on the best of days.

Legends go back to the earliest days, of when folks told Dan they thought spooks and haunts could be seen in the swamp from time to time. He knew of an old trail into the swamp, and told more than one visitor it was a shortcut to town. Many who entered never came out. Old Dan never entered the swamp at night, for he too had seen things he did not want to talk about. On one such visit he found an old graveyard he did not know existed, for it was from before his time. Some said it was the scene of a massacre, others said it was a place spirits took their victims to the underworld. Once, someone found a talisman that appeared to be that worn by a druid priest, but everyone knows this was not the home of Druids. The sounds and things people hear from the swamp are just as scary today as they were back in the days the Tayman’s roamed the area.

If you find yourself in the swamp, be sure to remember these words of warning: Beware of the quicksand and things that move on the ground, and whatever you do, do not get off the trail. Some folks who have made it through the trail have told wild stories of horrible spirits still lurking, looking for fresh victims. so take warning that the creatures of the swamp, the spirits of the underworld, or just the swamp itself may swallow you up and you will be lost forever. If you see greenman, do not look him in the eye—you will be taken into the realm of the netherworld.

FUNERAL HOME

Originally an old church, the Tayman family decided to convert it to a funeral home when the gold ran out in the mine. With as many graves on the property from over the years, it made sense to use the abandoned church as a Funeral home. The funeral home operated successfully for many years, and its reputation brought more and more bodies to be buried. Sometimes bodies had to be stacked up to wait their turn for a funeral. On more than one occasion, bodies seemed to disappear without a clue.

Several people over the years stated they have seen ghostly bodies walking around the area, looking for their graves, and in some cases, it seems they try to escape a burial because they do not realize they are dead. Sometimes they try to escape from the graveyard, and they must be caught and returned to the graveyard by whatever means possible. The undead never rest until they have final peace.

Those who have gone to the funeral home tell tales of sights and events that include stories of spirits, of the undead all through the house. At times, it seems like they are all around you, and at other times they seem to want to entice you to cross over to their own dark world, for they are forever trapped in the world of the undead for eternity. What ever you do, do not touch them. Their spirit can steal your soul with a touch.

Haunted Hayride

The road to and through the Tayman property has never been a good road. Some say the family liked it this way, keeping out unwanted visitors, others say it is because it is cursed, a road to and through a dark hellish land. Danger seems to lurk when night falls on these woods. Wicked things wake up and look for victims to prey upon.

Some people who live in the area travel out only during daylight, leaving these woods to the spirits that lurk in every shadow when darkness falls.

Many has been the story of someone traveling through at night only to turn up missing, and from time to time a fresh mound of earth shows up in these woods, or a coyote brings out a bone that appears to be human. Sometimes when the wind is blowing, the people in their homes swear they hear screams of terror in the night.

Stories abound of strange people walking through these woods, looking off, never at anyone, and never responding to the call of a passerby. It has been suggested there are zombies that live here, waiting for their next victims, waiting to add to their own underworld legion of terror.

The Tayman Family history suggests the zombies can be very violent when their area is entered at night, and they have attacked the Tayman family hayride on more than one occasion. That is why the hayride has a protective cage on it, to keep the zombies, in case they might attack, on the outside, safe from the good folks on the hayride. They can smell evil, and spot someone whose heart is not pure and these are the ones they want to feed on, for their flesh will not burn their mouths.

So look around you and know this—beware of the woods at night and hope the old tractor makes it back to the barn, for no one is safe in the woods at night. Remember, fear to a zombie is like blood to a shark—they smell fear, and feed on your fear, it excites them to a feeding frenzy, except you are the meal!
